Rebecca Fulgham

Rebecca Ann Ward Fulgham, 69, of Chattanooga, passed away at home on September 24. Becca was the daughter of the late Wayne and Mary Ann Ward of Louisville, Ky. She was raised in the shadow of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville where her father was professor of Christian theology for over forty years. Becca attended Atherton High School in Louisville and after graduation, attended Baylor University in Waco, Tx.. After her future husband Jim Fulgham graduated from Baylor and was drafted into the military, Becca returned home to attend the University of Louisville from which she later graduated. She and Jim were married in 1969 and moved to El Paso, Tx. while he attended USAF advanced training. Becca spent the duration of Jim’s tour of duty with him on the island of Okinawa. Upon returning to the states, she received an M.Ed in Early Childhood Education from UT Chattanooga. Her professional career from the mid-seventies until her retirement centered around the nurturing of young children. Becca was the Pre-School director at Burk’s UMC in Hixson and then moved on to Family Resource Agency of North Georgia from which she retired as Director in 2013. She served on, and chaired many governing boards throughout north Georgia and Chattanooga.
Becca is survived by Jim, her husband of forty nine years; a son, Jason (Emily) Fulgham, grandson Alexander Wayne of Knoxville and a daughter, Ashley (Jeff) Phillips, grandson Holden West, also of Knoxville. She is further survived by an older brother, Larry (Peggy) Ward of Yorba Linda, Ca. and younger brother, David (Mimi) Ward of Shelbyville, KY., niece Jackie Ward of Washington, D.C. and nephew Tommy Ward of Lexington, Ky.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 28, from 10-11:45 AM in the sanctuary of Hixson United Methodist Church, 5301 Old Hixson Pike. A celebration of Becca’s life will follow in the sanctuary at noon.
A heart felt thank you to the entire Mountain View Team from Hospice of Chattanooga for their compassion and care. They made the waning days and hours much more bearable for the family.
In lieu of flowers, if you so desire, the family requests that any memorial contributions be made to Highland Plaza United Methodist Preschool or the SECU Family House in Winston-Salem, N.C.
