Mr. David Edward Bliek, age 75, of Chattanooga, Tennessee passed away Saturday August 6, 2022.
David was born March 19, 1947, in Le Mars, Iowa. He was a much loved husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He loved his family and was always there to help.
David loved fishing, mushroom hunting, good food, and travel. He was generous and a man of integrity. There were things he still wanted to do and learn, that was just in his nature.
David served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Ft. Carson, Colorado.
David was an entrepreneur and a successful businessman. He helped pioneer the use of synthetic fibers in the concrete industry starting in the mid 1980’s.
He started his working career at age 14 as a bus boy at the Holiday Inn for $0.50 an hour. Work in the Bliek household was not just something to do for extra money. Work was a necessity and a measure of who you were as a person and family member.
As a child, David was reared by his grandmother and five older brothers. His children and grandchildren loved to hear his tales of growing up on the “Westside” of Sioux City in the 1950’s. As one can imagine, he and his brothers could be rascals.
David passed away surrounded by his family with love and respect.
He was preceded in death by his son, James Edward Bliek, mother, grandmother, and four brothers.
Surviving are his devoted wife of over 54 years, Ellen Bliek; daughter, Christine Gail Reno (Michael); sons, John Henry Bliek (Lori) and David James Bliek; brother, Fred Bliek (Gailyn); grandchildren: Morgan Bliek, Garrett Bliek, Daniel Bliek and Sophie Bliek.
A Celebration of Life service for David will be Friday August 12, 2022, at 2:00 PM at the Coulter Chapel of the Lane Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM.
