James Wesley Carnes

James Wesley Carnes, 93, of Hixson, TN, died August 1, 2022.  Jim was born October 8, 1928, in Chattanooga, TN.  He was the son of the late Floyd Odis and Nina Pearl (Houser) Carnes.  He attended Red Bank High School.  He started his life long career in the telephone communications industry (38 years) when he went to work for the Western Electric Company in 1944 as an installer of long distance telephone equipment.  He met his future wife, Irene, while working on a job in Charlotte, NC.  He and Irene, a long distance telephone operator, were married in 1954 in York County, SC.  After spending a couple of years in the United States Army, they made their home in Chattanooga, where they raised two children.  He was raised in the Baptist faith & was a loving husband, father & grandfather.  He enjoyed his retirement - having spent it RV’ing all along the southern coastlines, deep sea fishing for grouper and working in his garden.  He was preceded in death by both his wife, Irene, and his son Michael Bryan Carnes.  He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Susan (Dale) Hutsell;  four grandchildren, Dr. Staci Renee Hutsell Cannon, Michelle Denise Carnes Vice, Lt. Cmdr. Neal Patrick Hutsell, USN, and Bryan Paul Carnes, along with numerous great-grandchildren as well as a host of extended family and friends.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.  A memorial visitation will be held from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Lane Funeral Home.  Arrangements entrusted to Lane Funeral Home ~ Ashland Terrace, 601 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37415.  (423) 877-3524.
