Be the first to offer your condolences on Harry's Tribute Wall
Harry Kilgore Williams passed away on Wednesday, January 9 of natural causes at his cherished home on Signal Mountain. He was 84. Born April 6, 1934 in Nashville, he came from a large, loving family. He attended Tennessee Tech and was active in ROTC, graduating with a degree in Engineering. Perhaps the greatest accomplishment of his college career was meeting and marrying the love of his life, Martha Carolyn Wall Williams. Upon graduation, Harry and Martha began their adventures together in Chattanooga, where he began a 40 year career in nuclear engineering at Combustion Engineering. He loved his wife more than words can describe. He and Martha raised their two sons in the idyllic Summertown neighborhood on Signal Mountain. He loved nature and hiking; camping, and canoeing were his beloved pastimes. An outstanding photographer, he documented his time in the outdoors through the lens of his camera. Following retirement, he continued to enjoy the outdoors, raised beautiful flowers, enjoyed good bourbon, listened to classical music and spent time traveling with Martha. A fan of the culinary arts, he spent his spent his evenings cooking elaborate meals for her as they aged gracefully together. In his final years, he provided loving, compassionate care for Martha during her ongoing struggle with Alzheimers. A passionate Democrat, Harry enjoyed discussing politics with friends. He loved his country deeply and was a retired Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves. He will be missed by his wife of 62 years, Martha; his two sons Matthew (Kelly Nelson) of Fort Washington, Maryland and Timothy of Signal Mountain. He also leaves a loving sister, Betty Williams Hill of Nashville and a large family of adoring nephews and nieces, including Tom (Lonnie), Bob (Jayne) and Linda Hill of Nashville; Gail Hester Vick (Tony) of Murfreesboro; John Williams, Sylvia Williams and Nancy Williams Luna (Jose) of Ventura, California. There will be a celebration of his life for family and friends scheduled at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, TN 37415. www.lanefh.com, (423) 877-3524
