Gary F. Smith

Gary Smith, age 87, went home to be with Jesus on September 11, 2022.  He was a member of First Centenary United Methodist Church.

Born January 24, 1935, to John Herbert Smith and Dorothy Louise (Brown) Smith, he attended City High School.

He entered the Army in Ft Knox, KY, later serving in Korea and Hawaii. (1950-53) 

Returning home to Chattanooga, he attended the University of Chattanooga and soon met his lovely wife, Juanita Higdon. He began a sales career for Allstate Insurance Company which moved them to various parts of the country while raising a family.  Their love for the Tennessee Valley and especially Signal Mountain brought them back home after many years.  He was an avid golfer and a member of Signal Mountain Golf and Country Club, as well as Valleybrook Golf and Country Club. 

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Juanita in 1996, and his brother Ronald Smith.

He is survived by his daughters, Donna Smith and Connie Vance;  grandsons, Billy Frank Smith and Gary Andrew Smith; great-granddaughters, Madison and Oaklee; and nephew Bret, nieces Brenda and Lynda. 

The family wishes to thank the care given by Alexian Village and Kindred Hospice.

Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Monday, September 19, 2022 in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
