Elvera Mae Glisson

August 21, 1923 ~ November 24, 2020 (age 97) 97 Years Old

Tribute

On angel’s wings, Elvera Mae Hanes Glisson, 97, was carried home to Jesus on November 24, 2020 to reunite with her parents, William Oscar and Tempie Anna G. Hanes, and loving husband of 67 years, H. K. “Nitro” Glisson. She is survived by daughter, Sharon (Dwight) Kilgore, and sons, James (Jacque) Glisson and Robert (Kim) Glisson. Also survivors include 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren with 1 on the way. Elvera was born in Cullman, Alabama and was raised with 5 siblings on a farm out in the country. After high school, she attended Auburn University where she studied Food Science. During this time, she met a Navy Pilot just returning from WW II nicknamed “Nitro”. Upon completing her course studies and their courtship, they graduated in December of 1948. The day after graduation, they married and traveled to Knoxville, TN where Nitro began his career with the Tennessee Valley Authority as an Electrical Engineer and she worked for St. Mary’s Hospital as a dietitian. She held several positions in hospitals and schools culminating with a very rewarding experience teaching practical lessons to Orange Grove adults so they could become independent adults. The family wants to extend heartfelt thanks to the Staff of Manorhouse where Nitro & Elvera lived beginning in 2016. They provided exemplarily support both physical & emotional for both our dad and mom. The Nurse Practitioners from Aspire Health Partners with regular visits allowed our parents the benefit of having medical checkups in their room which reduced the number of visits to a doctor. This insured medical attention on a regulated schedule. When each parent started declining, Hearth Hospice became the primary medical member of Glisson team of advisors. Our family is blessed to have had these competent health care providers to assist with our parents’ welfare. A service will be held privately by the family in the Chattanooga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to any of these organizations: Manorhouse Assisted Living & Memory Care on Mt. Creek Road, Hearth Hospice at 513 Georgia Avenue and/or Boyd Buchanan School at 4650 Buccaneer Trail.
