Tribute

Doris Evidene Ritchie Tatum, age 80, of Chattanooga passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2018 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Doris, known as Evidene to family and friends, is survived by her husband, George Louis Tatum; son, Bruce Tatum; sister, Janice (Don) Ritchie Watson; sister-in-law, Mary Ritchie; nieces, Johanna Bradford, Carla Bynum, Michele Rich; nephews, Jay Ritchie, Chris Watson; and several great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by son, Allen Tatum; parents, Roy and Zora Ritchie; and brother, Johnny Ritchie.
Evidene was a lifelong resident of the Suck Creek Community and loved her beautiful Tennessee Riverside home. She attended Mountain Creek Elementary and graduated from Kirkman High School. After graduation, she worked at Mitchel Tire Company as a secretary. Soon after, she met and married Louis, her husband of 58 years. After the birth of their first son Allen, she devoted herself full time to caring for her family.
She loved cooking, sewing, and making all types of crafts which she enjoyed gifting to others. Always a care giver, Evidene spent her life caring not just for Louis, Allen, Bruce, but for her parents, brother and sister as well. The mountain Creek Elementary School honored her with a lifetime membership of PTA for her service to the school. Among other things, she was always homeroom mother for both of her son’s classes. Years later, then adults, previous students would tell her they still remembered the special things she had done for their class.
The family will receive friends Thursday, September 6 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am Friday in the chapel. Interment will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
