Tribute

Charles Ray Dupree, age 84, went home to be with his heavenly Father on January 10, 2019. He was a kind and generous man. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be dearly missed by many. He was born in Fort Payne, Alabama, with his family eventually settling in Chattanooga. After graduating from Dekalb High School, he moved to Chattanooga. He worked for Dixie Yarns during which time he married his long time sweetheart and best friend, Mary Katherine Buchanan. They were married for 65 years.
In 1958, he was drafted into the army and served six years on active and inactive duty. He entered college at UTC and received a BS degree in accounting. He was a member of Institute of Management Accounting for many years, serving various positions there.
He worked for Hart’s Automotive Parts, Inc. most of his adult life where he served as Treasurer 17 years and President seven years.
During his 60 year membership at Red Bank Baptist Church, he was active in many leadership roles including serving as chairman of the deacons, caring hands and teaching children.
After retiring, he was a volunteer for many years, delivering Meals on Wheels, Food Bank, Community Kitchen, working with IRS as a VITA volunteer (preparing income tax for people), and visiting nursing homes and assisted living facilities. “We make a living by what we get. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Alfred & Martha Dupree; a sister Sibyl (Joe) Woebbeking; a brother J.R. Dupree.
He and his wife had two children, a son Alan (Carol) and a daughter Dr. Kim (Mike), Alan has a son Daniel and a daughter, Julia. Kim has two daughters Kyla and Chloe.
He is also survived by a sister Virginia Laney, brothers Ronald and Don (Mary Lou) Dupree and many relatives.

The family will receive friends 1:00-4:00 pm Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace with a Celebration of Charles’ Life following at 4:00 pm. Bill Harvey and Dr. Fred Steelman will officiate the service. Interment 9:30 am Monday, January 21, 2019 in Chattanooga National Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Red Bank Baptist Church, 4000 Dayton Blvd, Chattanooga, TN 37415.
