Betty Carolyn Alexander (née Hutcheson), 93, died peaceably on May 30, 2020. She was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee where she spent her career at Dupont, often working night shifts, including as a highly skilled early computer operator. Betty loved to bowl! She was on the DuPont Bowling League and was quite proud of her impressive scores which she kept a record of year after year, not only to talk about, but to compare her scores, so that she could strive to do better, and to be a competitive team player. She proudly displayed her trophies in her living room for all to see. Betty was also an avid gardener, taking great pride in her various flowers and shrubs, knowing each plant name and when each bloomed; also carefully guarding each one to make sure all would thrive and was beautiful to behold. She would be outside tending her yard and garden every day until her health stopped her from dedicated routines. Music, dancing, bowling, skiing, gardening, traveling, and working for over 30 years at DuPont does not sum up who Betty was, but declares that she loved life and intended to live it to the fullest of her capabilities. Water skiing and boating were two of Betty’s favorite pastimes in her working days. She loved to get in the water and show off her aquatic skills. She loved her boat and cruising the Chickamauga Lake. Before her husband, Al, died, they both loved to travel the USA in one of her many Cadillacs. Al worked for Camera and Craft and was expert at taking pictures of the sights, and of his favorite sight, Betty. She had albums of pictures that she would happily show anyone who asked. Preceded in death by her husband Al, who died in 1999, she lived in her beloved home in Chattanooga for 64 years. With no children, Siamese cats became her treasured offspring. She spoiled them and treated them as if they were indeed human. She is truly missed by her family, friends, and neighbors on Laird Lane.
